Prayer that pleases the LORD
1 Ki. 3:4-15
When Solomon prayed for wisdom so that he would be able to discern between good and evil while ruling over the people of God, the LORD was very pleased with him. The LORD also gave Solomon riches and honour, those that he did not ask.
When we pray, what do we ask God most often? Let Solomon’s prayer serve as a mirror on how we should also pray. Today, we give riches and honour priorities and do not care for wisdom. We care for our own pleasures only. James 4:3 says, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.” The LORD expects us to live in accordance with His wished and commands. Those who do well to remember and ask Him for guidance and wisdom to live such a life are always rewarded and given honour, and if the LORD wishes, riches and wealth too.
