The Promised land

Deut. 11:11-12

Moses told the Israelites about the land they are to occupy: “the land that you are crossing over to occupy is a land of hills and valleys, watered by rain from the sky, a land that the Lord your God looks after. The eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year” (Deut. 11:11-12).

While they were in Egypt, they manipulated the river to make the land fertile or good enough to cultivate the things they need – all under slavery. The LORD led them out of Egypt and brought them to the Promised Land. This land is completely different from the land they were brought out of. It is the land that the LORD looks after, it is the land watered by rain and where the eyes of the LORD are always on, from the beginning of the year to the end. It is the land flowing with milk and honey (Deut. 11:9).

But all this depended upon their obedience. If they become disobedient, the LORD will “shut up the heavens, so that there will be no rain and the land will yield no fruit” (Deut. 11:17).

We were also in sin and in slavery. The LORD has also brought us out of that place to a land of hills and valleys, watered by rain from above. It is not no longer to manipulate the Nile here. It is now the land where there must be complete dependence on the LORD. It is the land where the overflowing rivers cannot hurt us anymore. It is the land where we get water free from above and where the land produces on time. This is the land where the LORD looks after and where His eyes rest upon throughout the year.

In our Christian lives, if we trust in the LORD and are in complete dependence, He is always there to lift us up and provide for us. This, however depends on our obedience to Him.
