The disciples and the love of God

In the Bible, we see Jesus washing His disciples’ feet, the last supper, and the arrest of Jesus. I would like to highlight some of these into lessons:

  1. Jesus Christ washing His disciples’ feet shows us how Christians should also live – in humility and in the service of others.
  2. They ate the Passover Feast, a feast that began the night when the Israelites were to leave Egypt. They smeared the blood of the lamb on their doors, and because of this, the LORD passed over their households (Ex. 12:7) and were saved from death. Jesus also showed that He was the Passover Lamb whose blood was to be spilled for many.
  3. At the Last Supper, Jesus told His disciples to “do this in remembrance of me” (Mt. 26:26-29; Mk. 14:22-25; Lk. 22:14-20; 1 Cor. 11:23-26). Do we still remember Him?
  4. Jesus then went to pray in the garden of Gethsemane. He was worried and sad. He knew what was to happen. He prayed to the Father, “Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me” but Jesus also said, “nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will” (Mat. 26:39). Oh, the great love of Jesus for us! Hebrews 5:8 says, “Although He was a son, He learned obedience through what He suffered.”

And so, on that night, Jesus was arrested. If He had wanted, He could have called upon thousands of angels (Mat. 26:53). But He did not. If He had, we wouldn’t be saved. He saw us. He saw you. He saw me. He saw our nature and our fate. He had to die. If not, we would be suffering. And so, He suffered for us and died for us, so that we could live.
