Pressing on

Judges 8

Gideon and his 300 men were after the Midianites. As they crossed the Jordan, they were exhausted and famished. But they pressed on. On the way, the people of Succoth and Penuel taunted them and refused to feed Gideon and his men. But Gideon and his men were not distracted nor fazed, but they pressed on towards their target, finally overcoming them. When they returned, they did what they wanted to do over the people of Succoth and Penuel.

In our Christian lives, we could learn two important things from this incident:

  1. We need to press on even when we are exhausted and famished. We may not always be strong and well fed, or even well equipped. But the trick is to press on towards our goal.
  2. Another thing is to properly understand and be crystal clear about our mission. Gideon and his men were never distracted from their true mission by all the taunting they received. This was because they were clear about their objective. How can we reach our destination if we try to deal with every dog that barks at us on the way?

In John 20:21 Jesus also tells His…
