Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?

Gen. 18:14

Abraham and Sarah were well advanced in years. Regarding Sarah, it is written, “it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women” (Gen. 18:11). But the Lord God promised them a son. Unbelieving, Sarah laughed. When the Lord asked why she laughed, Sarah denied it and said, “I did not laugh.” But the Lord knew and said, “Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?”

Let us look at this incident two ways:

Firstly, the Lord sometimes leads us to utter disappointment, to a situation where we, as human beings, do not think there is a way out, to show his ability to do the impossible. As long as we think we could look after ourselves, we never needed God. But when we are at the end of the road, to the end of our strength, the power of God is revealed. It is here that God often leads us so that we may fully trust in Him.

Secondly, humankind often fail to trust in the Lord because we tend to look at things from our own perspectives, and our ability to deal with them. In trying to hide our unbelief, we also attempt to bury our embarrassing unbelief under more lies and denials.

At this moment in time, when we are facing such difficulties, it is very important to know that the Lord often leads us to such situations so that we may trust in Him. We might never see the answers to all our questions in our lifetime, but it is good to know that we have God to whom nothing is impossible.
