Engraved on the palms of His hands

Is. 49:14-16

We’ve each had our share of difficulties in life. We’ve also had others things that add to our sorrows. The world seems to be groaning today. Many have lost their jobs while moving towards an uncertain future. Some are sick, and hospitalised; some are struggling financially; some feel that true love is disappearing and that life has been unfair to them.

Do you say, “We’ve been  forgotten and left behind and the land has become desolate”? Likely.

The people of God also felt this and said, “The LORD has forsaken me, the LORD has forgotten me” (Is. 49:14). They had been hard-pressed from the outside and were suffering greatly. They could not understand it either.

But the LORD never forsook them, but He had always been on the lookout for them, watching upon them with love. They just didn’t realise it. The LORD said, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?” (Is. 49:15). Mothers (or parents) will understand this very well. How can a mother forget her child, her breastfeeding child? And if sinners would never forget their child, how much would the LORD remember us!

Even if a mother may forget, the LORD will never forget. He said, “Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Is. 49:15).

Not only this, He said, “See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands” (Is. 49:16).

When you are feeling down, remember that the LORD has engraved you on his palms, and He remembers you always. The one who said, “I will not forget you” is the One who made the heavens and the earth. He loves us so much He gave His Son so we may be saved. He looks at us with love. We worry only because we do not realise His immeasurable love.
