A grudging heart
Deut. 15:10
Deuteronomy 15:1-11 tells the Israelites about the year of pardoning or cancelling debts. It also instructs them about helping the poor and the helpless among them and to give to them what they need. It clearly instructs them to do so “without a grudging heart” (Deut. 15:10).
As I read this, I began to think about the many times I held back my hands giving to the LORD. I also think of the grudge that I had when I gave more than I actually wanted to. I was so wrong.
All that we have belongs to the LORD. All “good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father” (James 1:17). What we failed to realise is that we are just giving back what is already His when we give. As such, we grumble and we grudging give sometimes, while in fact, we should be giving with a cheerful heart, knowing that the LORD loves a cheerful giver.
God does not really need what we have. What he wants is for us to give cheerfully. He also gave us His only begotten Son for us, sinners. Let us also give Him back what is already His with a cheerful heart.
For, 2 Corinthians 9:7 tells us that, “God loves a cheerful giver.”
