On What Foundation?

Genesis 11:1–9

When humankind planned to build the Tower of Babel, both their foundation and their motives were flawed. They sought to reach the heavens, make a name for themselves, prevent their dispersion, and—according to some—to protect themselves from another flood. Their efforts ended in complete failure.

As we build our own lives, we must ask: On what foundation are we building, and with what intentions? In Matthew 7:24–27 and Luke 6:47–49, Jesus speaks of two foundations—the rock and the sand. Those who hear His words and put them into practice are like those who build on the rock. Those who hear but do not act are like those who build on sand. When storms come—when winds blow and rains fall—the house built on the rock stands firm, while the one built on sand collapses.

Today, as the world sinks deeper into confusion and uncertainty, we must examine our own foundations. If we build our lives on what the world offers, our foundation will last only as long as the world itself—perhaps even less. But if our foundation is laid on the Rock, the Word of the Lord, with Jesus Christ as the chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20), we will not be shaken, for “God’s firm foundation stands” (2 Timothy 2:19).

So we must ask ourselves:
Where do we stand?

“On what foundation are our lives being built? If it is on what the world offers, it will last only as long as the world does. But if it is on the Word of God, it will last for eternity.”
