Lot chose Sodom
Gen. 13:8-18
The other day, we looked into how Abraham trusted in the Lord in the face of hardships and yet-to-be fulfilled promises. Today, let us consider the situation in which Lot chose Sodom and try to bring into focus our own choices today.
As Abraham and Lot became wealthy, they decided to part ways. Lot saw that the plain of the Jordan, in the direction of Zoar was “well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt” (Gen. 13:10). He naturally chose it. Who wouldn’t?
As for Abraham, he had to stay back in the land of Canaan. But, in the land that Lot chose is the city of Sodom, whose people were “wicked great sinners against the Lord” (Gen. 13:13). As such, even though Lot seemed to be better of, the land that Abraham lived was a land God promised, the land God chose. Today, do we still chose to stay back in the land God chose for us instead of choosing all the riches of the world? The plain of the Jordan might seem pleasing to the eye, but it is important to remember that it always invariably has a Sodom we need to deal with. Therefore, let us remember to trust in the Lord and always be on the spot where God chose for us. The grass may look greener on the other side, but ours had the Lord. We may have to go through different wildernesses, but we have God on our side.
