New Life

Eph. 4:22-24

In the letter to the Ephesians, Paul wrote mostly about Christian living. This was because, the Jews and the Gentiles were in loggerheads with each other. In chapters 1-3, Paul talked about unity in Christ and compared the the church to the body, a house and a woman. In chapter 4, Paul elaborated on how a Christian should live.

Ephesians 4:22-24 says, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” We see three important things here: to put off the old self, to be made new and to put on the new self.

1. To put off the old self

Ephesians 4:22 says, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires.” To have a new life, we must put off our old ways of life which had been corrupted by deceitful desires.

2. To be made new

As Ephesians 4:23 says, “to be made new in the attitude of your minds,” we also need to be made new every day. Since our body cannot be ‘made anew,’ we need to make our minds anew.

3. To put on the new self

Ephesians 4:24 says, “and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” We must cast off our old self and put on the new self.
