Jesus Cleanses the Temple

Mat. 21:12-13

After Jesus entered Jerusalem triumphantly, he went into the temple. My my, the temple had become a marketplace! Jesus overturned the tables and the seats of the shopkeepers inside the temple and scolded them. We have two important lessons to learn from this incident:

  1. Today we have become too concerned with church growth and extending our churches without giving much thought to its cleanliness. But here, we see that Jesus cared more about the holiness and cleanliness of the temple than its growth or extension. Let us also give priority to quality over quantity.
  2. Righteousness does not mean timidity or cowardice. Jesus showed us how we should also stand up against any unrighteousness in the church.
