God’s Firm Foundation Stands
2 Tim. 2:19
The world may change, the seas may roar, the mountains may move to the seas; but the foundation of God still stands. Empires, emperors, kings and rulers may try to destroy the word of God. But it still stands today.
We are in trouble. False teachers are trying to dilute the Gospel. They work very hard in social media and in the internet as well. They are those who teach different doctrines that do not agree with the sound word of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness (cf 1 Tim. 6:3). They are eloquent and sharp minded.
Therefore, Paul appeals to us “to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them” (Rom. 16:17).
How are we to know them? How are we to test them?
Galatians 1:8 tells us about it: “Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.” So, we are looking at teachings that are not in accord with the Gospel we have been taught. There is not much besides the ones we have been taught. We cannot go beyond what the Bible teaches us. Let us not be too much into what is popularly taught – knowledge, special knowledge and Gnostic tendencies.
This is because, whatever the devil does, the firm foundation of God cannot be shaken. The day of reckoning is nigh. For,
- The LORD knows His own because He loves us (Jn. 10:14, 27-29; 2 Tim. 2:19), and;
- Let everyone who names the name of the LORD depart from iniquity (2 Tim. 2:19).
