Are you ready for eternity?

Where will you go if you die today? Will you be with God? Have you even thought about this question?

Romans 3:23 says that every one sins and they have come short of the glory of God. Did you say “So what?” Romans 6:23 tells us the wages of sin is death. Not mere death, eternal punishment, spiritual death.

But the LORD is a merciful God. He gave us a gift of eternal life (Rom. 6:23). Jesus died for our sins, and paid the penalty of our sin in full. Yes, in full. His life, his death, his burial and resurrection brings eternal life to everyone who believes in Him.

But only a few have this eternal life. Why? Some refused to believe. Some tried to attain this life by doing good works. Some have never heard of it.

But how do we ‘believe’? We must believe, know and acknowledge we were sinners. We must repent and put our faith in Jesus who came to pay all our debts and proclaim Him (Rom. 10:9). He needs to be accepted as LORD and Saviour and be baptised in his death, burial and resurrection (Rom. 6:3-4). By baptism, we do not mean the mere sprinkling of water or immersion in the water. We mean the putting on of faith and complete trust in Him; because as He lives, we also live. This is not the result of our work, it is a free gift (Eph. 2:8-9; Tit. 3:5-7).

And so, having received the free gift of eternal life, why are you still dawdling? “Get up, be baptised, and have your sins washed away, calling on His name” (Acts 22:16).

Indeed, delay not. Be ready for eternity!
