Seeing, but not eating

2 Ki. 7

Samaria had been under siege by the Arameans. There was such a great famine inside the city that some of them even ate their children! It was then that Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Tomorrow about this time a measure of choice meal shall be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria” (2 Ki. 7:1). But the captain of the king did not believe in what Elisha said and Elisha told him, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat from it” (2 Ki. 7:2).

It came to pass just as Elisha had predicted and foretold. The captain saw everything that was happening, but he did not eat from it because he was trampled to death!

Out of many, let us bring forth only one lesson:

How many of us who profess to be Christians are like the captain – not believing in the power of God? It is possible that the church today is filled with such kinds of people – not really believing in the power of God and who have not even been born again.

Let us see where we stand today and mend our ways because we might become like the captain who saw, but not eat.
