Running Away

Jonah 1:1-3

Jonah was commanded to go to Nineveh to tell them of their sins and to repent. But Jonah went to Joppa where he boarded a ship to go to Tarshish. We do not know of any difficulties as he ran away in the beginning. In fact, it was more likely that he easily ran away, finding a ship easily that is going to Tarshish. But the fact remains: he was trying to run away from God. What he didn’t know: it is impossible to run away from God.

Today, believers are also commanded to preach the gospel. But we , like Jonah, do not really care about it. We find excuses and reasons and justify our actions (inactions, rather) and think that just because we could find a way out, we are not required to do it.

Let us test and check ourselves using the story of Jonah and see if we are trying to circumnavigate through our responsibilities.
