Lessons from Jehoshaphat – I

Jehoshaphat was a God-fearing king. But he was friends with Ahab, the king of Israel; and the prophet Jehu was sent to rebuke him. Afterwards, Jehoshaphat repented and established rulers over the fortified cities and told them (2 Chron. 19:6-7, 9): “Consider what you are doing, for you judge not on behalf of human beings but on the Lord’s behalf; he is with you in giving judgment. Now, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care what you do, for there is no perversion of justice with the Lord our God, or partiality, or taking of bribes… This is how you shall act: in the fear of the Lord, in faithfulness, and with your whole heart.”

Let us learn the following lessons from this:

  1. Let us remember that we are judging on behalf of God, not human beings.
  2. We may say, “I am not a wise man/woman.” But let us remember that the Lord is with us in giving judgments.
  3. Let the fear of the Lord be upon us today. The present generation has become too proud and insolent. We do not fear the Lord. We fear men more than God.
  4. God is not partial. Let us also not be partial.
