Judas and the woman

Mk. 14:3-11

Two events were recorded in Mark 14:3-11. The first was the anointing of Jesus by a woman who brought the costly ointment. The second was that of Judas betraying Jesus for some money.

Let us consider two things from these two events:

  1. Judas was a disciple of Jesus who saw everything the Lord did during His ministry. But Judas never knew Him or truly believed in Him. Instead, Judas was after riches all this time. Likewise, there are many so-called Christians seeking earthly riches, failing to trust in God. Are we one of them?
  2. On the other hand, there is that woman who offered her everything to Jesus. She was not known. She was not even well-received by some of the disciples. But she knew the Lord. She trusted in Him. She brought her everything to Him. The alabaster jar of pure nard was an expensive ointment; and she was pouring it over His head. By doing that, she was preparing Jesus for His death and burial. Isn’t it amazing how God chose to work and use people? God prefers to use what men regard as useless and insignificant. Look at the faith of the woman! What have we offered to the LORD today? How have others criticised us for following Jesus?
