Intercession

Gen. 18:16-33

First of all. A very Happy New Year 2026.

As Sodom was about to be destroyed, Abraham asked the Lord, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?” (Gen. 18:23). He was interceding for Lot and the righteous of Sodom. Because of this, Lot and his family were saved from destruction.

Today, like Abraham became an intercessor for Lot and the righteous of Sodom, we, sinners also have an intercessor in Jesus Christ. How fortunate we are!

John 17 tells us how Jesus prayed for his disciples. But it was not only for them, he prayed for us too: “I ask not only in behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word” (Jn. 17:20). Yes, Jesus is our intercessor. 1 John 2:1 says, “we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 Timothy 2:5 also says, “There is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human.” Indeed, He sits at the right hand of God (Rom. 8:34) and who intercedes for us (Heb. 7:25).

Today, we might not be as sinful as Sodom. But since our righteousness is as a filthy rag before God (Is. 64:6), we are still repugnant to God. Therefore, let us give thanks to our mediator, our advocate and intercessor Jesus Christ.

Dear friend, do you have Jesus?
