Gideon

Judges 6-8

The Israelites were reeling under the rule of the Midianites. All their crops and their livestock continue to be destroyed by them. When the Israelites called upon the Lord, the Lord listened and called Gideon to save them. As the Israelites were under siege, Gideon was busy beating out the wheat in the wine press, hiding from the Midianites. The Lord said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty warrior.” What Gideon did, and how God called him may seem to be the opposite. It is not our intention to write the whole story. And, so, after having been called to fight for the Lord, Gideon did what was asked of him and freed the Israelites from the Midianites’ hands.

Whatever and whoever Gideon was, his strength lay in the Lord being with him, in him being commissioned by the Lord and in God’s assurance to him to have peace. Additionally, it also depended upon the Israelites’ absolute obedience to the direction of God, fighting the enemy in the most unconventional way. But they won.

Likewise,

  1. Let us also call upon the Lord in our time of need,
  2. Because He is always with us,
  3. And assures us of His peace,
  4. And do what he asks us to do,
  5. So we will win and be ultimately saved
