Archippus
Col. 4:17; Philem. 1:2
The name Archippus is found twice in the Bible, both in the letters of Paul. In his letter to Philemon, Paul calls him a ‘fellow soldier’ (Philm. 1:2). Archippus must have been in Colossae or Laodicea. We do not know much about him.
But, in Paul’s letter to the Colossians (4:17), he wrote, “And say to Archippus, ‘See that you complete the task that you have received in the Lord.’” From this, we can understand that Archippus was entrusted with a task from the Lord and that he must complete it. Maybe he decided to be slack and run away from it, or maybe he was not trying enough. We do not really know. But we know that it has not been completed.
Whatever it was, Paul advised him to complete it.
The church today; each of us also have tasks to do in the Lord. Where are we in keeping that task? Have we neglected it? Or are we doing enough?
“See that you complete the task you have received from the Lord.”
