An exceeding great reward

“I am your exceeding great reward.” Gen. 15:1

God made a covenant with Abram. In Genesis 15:1, we see three things:

1. God tells him not to be afraid. When Abram was called, he was promised a lot of things. But none had materialised so far. In fact, he seemed to have been forgotten. But, the Lord reassured him and comforted him. Oh, how comforting and reassuring would it be to be comforted by God Himself!
2. God also reassured him that He is his shield. Though he may have been in danger many times, God had always been his shield.
3. God tells him that He is his exceeding great reward. What a reward! Rewards are always meant for someone who did good. Abraham did.

Let us contemplate on these once again:

1. Our fears today is known to God. “DO NOT BE AFRAID,” the God of Abraham is still the same today. He will never let you go alone though our present sufferings. Trust your future in Him, because He holds the future.
2. God is also our shield from all dangers. If God had not been a shield, Abram would have fallen already. But God was his shield. That made all the difference. Today, if God had not been our shield, we would have become ashes. But God remains our shield. That still makes a difference. That will always make a difference.
3. God is our exceeding great reward, not some ordinary man made reward. God, being his reward, Abram received God’s guidance, presence, protection, and salvation. What else can we expect to have, when we have God as our reward?

Trusting in God and being obedient to His will always has its rewards.
