God’s Firm Foundation Stands

2 Tim. 2:19

The world may change, the seas may roar, the mountains may move to the seas; but the foundation of God still stands. Empires, emperors, kings and rulers may try to destroy the word of God. But it still stands today.

We are in trouble. False teachers are trying to dilute the Gospel. They work very hard in social media and in the internet as well. They are those who teach different doctrines that do not agree with the sound word of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness (cf 1 Tim. 6:3). They are eloquent and sharp minded.

Therefore, Paul appeals to us “to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them” (Rom. 16:17).

How are we to know them? How are we to test them?

Galatians 1:8 tells us about it: “Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.” So, we are looking at teachings that are not in accord with the Gospel we have been taught. There is not much besides the ones we have been taught. We cannot go beyond what the Bible teaches us. Let us not be too much into what is popularly taught – knowledge, special knowledge and Gnostic tendencies.

This is because, whatever the devil does, the firm foundation of God cannot be shaken. The day of reckoning is nigh. For,

  1. The LORD knows His own because He loves us (Jn. 10:14, 27-29; 2 Tim. 2:19), and;
  2. Let everyone who names the name of the LORD depart from iniquity (2 Tim. 2:19).

    Col. 4:17; Philem. 1:2 The name Archippus is found twice in the Bible, both in the letters of Paul. In his letter to Philemon, Paul calls him a ‘fellow soldier’ (Philm. 1:2). Archippus must have been in Colossae or Laodicea. We do not know much about him. But, in Paul’s letter to the Colossians (4:17),…

    1 Corinthians 4:16; 11:1 Just the other day, I found myself reflecting on our evangelical ministries and missions—on how we send missionaries to distant lands. Often, the missionaries and new believers share warm fellowship and genuine joy in one another’s company. The missionaries preach the gospel, the people receive it, and lives are transformed. How…

    Just the other day, I received a Facebook notification about my post on June 13, 2016. As it is still relevant today, I am sharing it again: Roald Amundsen (1872-1928), a Norwegian was considered to be the first to reach the South Pole. Like him, Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922) was also a great explorer who had…

    Num. 11-14 What we are discussing today could be absolutely true or incorrect depending upon the reader. We have been Christians for over a hundred years.
