The Lord is near

Phil. 4:5

The Lord is always near us (cf. Jer. 23:23; Acts 17:27). The Apostle Paul, while being under ‘house arrest’ in Rome sent this epistle to the church at Philippi. Separated from his friends and fellow believers, he continued to spread the message that the Lord is always near. Paul mentions Jesus Christ 45 times in this epistle which shows that his ‘lockdown’ was profitably spent with Christ. He says, ‘living is Christ’ (1:21).

Whatever situation we are in, we can still receive His grace and peace (1:2; 4:7, 23). We might not be too happy with our present circumstances, but we can also “press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus” (3:14).
