The LORD has need of it
Mark 11:3
Being God, Jesus could have ridden anything. But as He was about to enter Jerusalem, he chose a donkey, a colt; and it belonged to someone else. The only thing that the owners were told was, “The Lord has need of it.”
Let us learn four things from this story:
- The Creator chose come into the world like us and humbled Himself. If He hadn’t, it might have been difficult to complete His mission. Let us also humble ourselves. We will not be able to fulfil our calling by remaining haughty and proud.
- The colt was something that was important for the people who owned it. It must have been their means of livelihood too. But, after being simply told that the Lord has need of it, they agreed to give it to Him. What are we? Why are we unwilling to give ourselves to Him even when the Lord has been blessing us all our lives? He gave His life for us! Think!
- Though the colt is an useful animal, it is not an animal highly regarded by men. During Jesus’ time, there were many chariots and horses, but the Lord chose to ride on the colt. Let us remember that Jesus is the Lord over all. You may think that you are of no value. But the Lord values everyone. He needs you too, and He can use you for His glory. Remember that.
- Those going to wars ride horses and those seeking peace ride colts. Jesus was expected to establish an earthly kingdom by defeating the Romans. But He rode on a colt, much to the chagrin of many Jews. How do we also expect our Lord today? Do we want Him to be as we desired? Or do we still serve Him according to His ways?
