Head or tail?

Deut. 28:13, 44; Lam. 1:1, 5

In Deuteronomy 28, we see the blessings for obedience and warnings against disobedience. One of the blessings is, “The Lord will make you the head, and not the tail” (Deut.28:13), and the consequence for disobedience is, others “shall be the head and you shall be the tail” (Deut. 28:44).

But the Israelites were not obedient. The LORD punished them.

Jeremiah was really hurt, and he lamented, “She that was a princess among the provinces has become a vassal” (Lam. 1:1) and that, “He foes have become her masters”(Lam. 1:5).

Their enemies have become the head, and they have become the tail.

This is truly something the church needs to remember today. Where do we stand – as individuals or as a church?
