Complaining to the Lord

Num. 11-14

What we are discussing today could be absolutely true or incorrect depending upon the reader.

We have been Christians for over a hundred years. But the longer we are, the more lax we have become in our approach towards church services, tithing and many other mission activities. To make our situation worse, have also been complaining that we’ve had too many church services, too many collections and so on.

The Israelites were used to grumblings against God (Num. 11:1). They refused to acknowledge the protection, guidance and providence of the Lord. Instead, they complained and grumbled all the time (cf. Ex. 14:11-12; 15:24; 16:2-3; 17:2-3; Num. 11:1, 4-6; 14:2-3 etc).

They loathed the Manna God gave them. They demanded meat. But when the Lord promised them meat, He said He will give them meat “until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you” (Num. 11:20). As they ate the meat, the Lord in anger, killed many of them.

Joshua and Caleb said to the Israelites, “do not rebel against the Lord” (Num. 14:9). Likewise, let us not grumble our rebel against the Lord but rejoice in Him. “If the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us” (Num. 14:8-9), for He is full of mercies, ready to pardon our sins.
