Love that would not leave us
“I led them with cords of kindness, with the bands of love.” (Hos. 11:4)
In Florida, USA, a boy was swimming in his backyard when an alligator took hold of his legs. His mother came to his rescue and she held on to his hands and never would let her son go. Then, a man came by, took his rifle and shot the alligator. After his rescue, the boy spent many days in the hospital where he recuperated. As he recovered, people were curious to see his scars. The boy would show the scars left by the alligator to anyone who wished to see them. But, the boy would also always show the scars on his arm where his mother held on to him. He was proud of this particular scar on his arm.
It is not clear if this story is true or not; and we are not able to ascertain its authenticity. But this story clearly illustrates the love of God for us too.
In our lives, and in our thoughts, we all have that certain scar somewhere. Being sinners, we are prone to sin and to commit one. This brings us more hardships wherever we are. But, we should also know that the love of God will never leave us. Even when we were in sin, God holds us, pulls us “with cords of kindness and with the bands of love.” He holds on to us, prodigal children.
For this, we sometimes receive scars of love from our Father in heaven. Let us be glad and be thankful to Him for holding on even when we do not deserve to be held.
