Whoever has the Son has life
God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:11-12
We have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23). We are to face eternal death and suffering. But God gave us His only begotten Son Jesus Christ so that everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life (Jn. 3:16). Because Jesus lives and will live forever, everyone who believes in Him will also live (Jn. 6:57; 14:19; Rom. 6:9; 1 Cor. 15:20; Gal. 2:20; Eph. 1:20-23; Heb. 7:25). Jesus Himself declared, “Because I live, you also will live” (Jn. 14:19).
It must, however, be understood that this eternal life is not in us; but in Jesus Christ. Jesus saying, “because I live”’ is very important. We do have life on our own. Jesus said, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you” (Jn. 6:53). Because He lives, and because He will not die again (Rom. 6:9), everyone who is in Him will live forever.
Do you have that life? Or are you still one of those whom Jesus said, “Yet you refuse to come to me to have life” (Jn. 5:40)? We do not have life on our own. We need Jesus to give us life.
