Jonahs prayer

Jonah 2

Jonah had attempted to run away from God. Because of this, he was thrown from the boat into the sea. There, a big fish swallowed him and he stayed in the belly of the fish for three days and nights. From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to God (2:1) and prayed that he would look toward God’s holy temple again and that he would sacrifice again. He did this because he knew that “Salvation comes from the LORD” (2:9).

Today, the whole world is struggling with different problems. This has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic. Many of us have been under lockdown, unable to move or travel, and unable to earn our living anymore. Additionally, some of us would also be facing problems because we have done things the LORD hates (or did not do what we are supposed to).

In our situation, do we still know who to call upon? Jonah called to the LORD from inside the fish and the LORD heard his prayers. Not only this, Jonah still gave thanks to the LORD. We aren’t inside a fish, we are still in a more comfortable place than Jonah. Wherever we are, whatever we have done, whatever we are, let us call upon the LORD. He will listen. Let us also know that “Salvation comes from the LORD.”
