Mary’s song of praise

Lk. 1:47

Luke 1:46-55 is Mary’s song of praise. Here, she praises the LORD her Saviour for what He has done for her. She said, “my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.”

As I read this particular verse, a question struck me, “Am I thankful for what the LORD has done for me?” As I tried answering this, I could not really answer with conviction, “I am.” I am glad, but rejoicing and being really glad is not what I felt. My mind had been so preoccupied with the worries of the world that they have been overshadowing this gladness. In fact, the thought of me being saved by my Saviour who suffered has escaped me for most of my times for a long time.

I believe many of us would be like me too. As we live our lives, we have become so preoccupied with other things that we have become somehow habituated to our daily routines. We have engaged ourselves with material things that we forget the eternal.

As Mary rejoiced in God her Saviour, let us also come back to Him rejoicing and praising Him.

As David also asked the LORD to restore unto him the joy of his salvation, let us pray to Him today and return to Him who loves us.
