“Do you also wish to go away?”
Jn. 6:67
The Lord Jesus Christ was teaching and preaching in and around the Sea of Galilee. A crowd followed Him everywhere as He taught. He fed five thousand, walked on water and taught that He is the bread of life and talked about eternal life. As the people heard these things, they said to each other, “This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?” Many of His disciple turned back and left Him. But the twelve stayed. Jesus asked them, “Do you also wish to go away?” Then, Simon Peter answered, “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”
As Christians, we often feel that many of the teachings of the Bible are hard and difficult to follow. Do we also say that these are hard teachings and we cannot accept them? Meanwhile, some of us do not care about any of them. They simply lived their lives as they deem fit.
What would our answer be, if the Lord were to ask us directly: Do you also wish to go away?
Let us remember to stick to that which we have believed, no matter what the world may say. The world, with all its desires is coming to an end. Let us stick to the one who has eternal life.
