Two invitations

Prov. 9:1-18

As we read the book of Proverbs, we see wisdom being treated in different ways. Sometimes, it is treated as a human being who invites people towards it (Prov. 1:20; 8:1). In Proverbs 9, we see it as a woman, a wise and a foolish one.

The wise woman builds her home and prepares herself (9:1-12). From her preparation, she wants to be heard and invites others and teaches them the wise path – the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom (9:10). As such those who seek her will have his days and year extended.

But the the foolish one does not prepare anything and does not know anything (9:13). Though she invites people, it was for the foolish ones. She gives them false teachings and her house is the house of the dead.

We constantly face such invitations. If we do not fear the LORD and if we lean our hearts only towards earthly glory, we will always fall into the invitation of the foolish woman.

Where are we today?

To know where we should go, let us turn to the LORD to give us the wisdom needed to navigate through all the temptations the world is giving us today.
