Speaking against men of God

Num. 12

Moses is known in the Bible as a humble person, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth (Num. 12:3). Because of this, he was able to lead such a great number of people (See Num. 1:46), a people known for their bickering and grumblings.

His wife was Zipporah. Aaron and Miriam spoke against him because of his wife. They also said, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also?” (Num. 12:2). Maybe they were jealous of Moses’ position.

The LORD heard it all and He summoned the three of them suddenly. Miriam later became leprous.

  1.  How important it is for leaders to be humble. There are all kinds of people, people who procrastinate, people who are happy, people who hate to see others happy, people who find faults in all things, people who sin endlessly… But a leader who is humble hears and bears all cases patiently and who is not easily influenced and swayed by different opinions is a true leader.
  2. Moses was set to be the leader of the Israelites. Maybe he had shortcomings, but it was not for others to make decisions about his leadership. It was God’s. Ehen Aaron and Miriam spoke against Moses, the LORD suddenly summoned them and stood by His servant. Moses, humble as ever, prayed for Miriam to be healed.
  3. Jealousy and self-aggrandisement destroys a person’s worth. “Only him? Why not me? I can also do it.” These are the things such people think and say. Not a wise move by Aaron and Miriam when they spoke against Moses.
  4. The LORD knows everything. Let us be careful.
