Diotrephes
We find the name Diotrephes only once in the Bible. Even then, he was referred to in a bad way.
John sent a letter to his friend Gaius. In that letter, John mentioned that he wished to visit Gaius, but that “Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us” (3 Jn. 1:9). This Diotrephes was apparently spreading malicious nonsense about the apostles. He was not satisfied with that only, he even refused to welcome other believers and stops those who want to do so and put them out of the church (3 Jn. 1:10).
From this inference, we know that Diotrephes was an influential member of the church. And from this, we also know that even influential members of the church today can be like Ditrephes, a snare, a thorn for others, and one who loves the limelight.
What position are you in today? Are you a snare for others? Even in the family, you can be a Diotrephes who stands in the way of your children receiving the word of God. In all aspects, Christians need to be careful and hospitable so that we should never be in the way of others receiving the truth of Jesus Christ.
