Lying open before the LORD

Prov. 15:11

Would the things we do and think when we are alone be pleasing to the LORD? As humans, we do not even really understand what we thought of each other even where we are all together. We put up fake expressions, and say words which we do not mean. We have become a pretentious society.

But before the LORD, “nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light” (Lk. 8:17). Proverbs 15:11 tells us clearly, “Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the LORD, how much more human hearts!”

Sheol is understood to be a dark place, the place of the dead. In the Bible, it is a pit of death and destruction, a place of suffering and torment. It is known as Hades sometimes. Abaddon is a place of destruction.

Looking at these two words, we could see that even Sheol and Abaddon cannot run away from the presence of the LORD. The LORD is ruler of them. He is in Sheol (Ps. 139:8) and can deliver from it (Ps. 16:10). Job 26:6 also says, “Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.”

Now, we have understood that there could be no hiding from the LORD. If so, what we think today, what we plan today; will they not be as clear as daylight before the LORD? If Sheol and Abaddon are open before the LORD, “How much more human hearts!” We are naked before Him, He known what we think, our plans, our sins. He knows everything (cf. Jer. 17:9-10; Jn. 2:25; Heb. 4:12-13).

As we are before Him, let us live as children of light (Eph. 5:8) and be careful in all we do (1 Thes. 5:5-6).
